I love Nora Roberts books.
The first one I read was True Betrayals. It had a cover featuring a horse's shadow and a bouquet of roses. It was sitting on the top of Mum's jewelry box. The spine was well worn, since it was a book Mum borrowed from someone who probably got it from someone else. They probably bought it second-hand.
I was feeling extra mischievous, and I didn't have a book to read so I started to read it. I, who has been reading R.L. Stine's Fear Street and select adult novels should have no problem with this book. I curled on Mum's bed and started to read. She, of cours,e found me and instead of taking the book away from her twelve year old she just folded down the sections of the book she didn't want me to read. Hey I was a good kid so didn't. At least, not on that book.
I liked the book but I think I liked the thought of reading adult books more. I continued reading voraciously. I got sidetracked from Roberts with the introduction of David Edding's books (there was never much fantasy novels around the house) and the idea of epic fantasy novels stole my imagination. About the time I was 15, Mum had two more Nora Roberts books sitting on her jewelry box (the spot she put the box she was reading at): Public Scandals and Sweet Revenge. When I read Sweet Revenge, I was transfixed. This book was amazing. I. MUST. READ. MORE.
At this point in my life, I was making a little money working at the local Dairy Queen and babysitting the neighbourhood kids. Enough money to buy books and fancy hair shampoo & creme rinse. (No more Head & Shoulders for me, hello Frizz-Ease). I went back and in the nearest town, starting buying up Roberts back list at the second hand store. I also started buying books when they were released. Mum started to re-read some of the books and realized, that she was enjoying the books even though she never re-read books before.
Since that time, one of us buys the latest Nora Roberts to read. In fact, I'll let her know when the next book is to come out and I usually buy it. (I read quickly). For Christmas when I was in university, and short on cash, I bought Blue Smoke and had Roberts sign it for Mum. The present was outshone by the fireplace Dad got her but Mum was impressed I got it all the same (Thanks Turn The Page!).
I think I own most of the books listed on Nora's Books page. Join me as I read in chronically order all of Nora Roberts books. I'll talk about what I liked, loved, disliked and my try to remember my thoughts on the book when I read it the first time. I hope you'll comment on what you thought about the books or my review. I'm excited to explore this extensive back list. =)
